Men’s Basketball Hosts Two Games Against Conference Opponents

The Tiffin University men's basketball team went 0-2 last week. This week, the Dragons will host three games, first on Monday, Feb. 1 against conference opponent Trevecca Nazarene with a 3:00 p.m. start. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 6 they face Cedarville with a 3:00 p.m. start.

Scouting the Dragons

The Dragons went 0-2 last week.

Last time out the Dragons were defeated by Ohio Valley University 78-68. The Scots shot 56.4 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc compared to the Dragons 36.6 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Tiffin is ranked first in the conference in field goals made per game averaging 10.3. The Dragons are third in the conference in turnover margin averaging 2.82 fewer turnovers than their opponent.

Tiffin has three players in double figures: Jaeden KingWesley Jordan and Tanner Johnson. King leads the team, scoring 17.3 points shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals, followed by Jordan who averages 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals.  Johnson averages 12.2 points shooting 42.6 percent from beyond the arc, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

Scouting the Trojans

The Trojans went 0-2 last week against Walsh and Malone. Trevecca is fifth in the conference in defense holding opponents to 68.4 points a game. 

Trevecca's offense is led by Brendan Newton scoring 13.7 points shooting 65 percent from the field, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. Chris Rogers is averaging 11.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists and teammate Robbie Rusciano is averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.6 blocks. 

The all-time series between the two programs is tied 2-2, with their last meeting coming on Dec. 5, 2019 when the Trojans won 72-66. 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

The Yellow Jackets are coming in on a five-game win streak, last week going 2-0 against Lake Erie and Ohio Valley. 

Cedarville is first in the conference in offense scoring 81.5 points per game, is first in rebounds averaging 40.6 per game and is outrebounding their opponents by 6.8 rebounds a game. 

The Yellow Jackets have five starters in double figures with Branden Maughmer scoring 16.6 points shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.0 rebounds per game followed by Kollin Van Horn who averages 16.3 points shooting 66.7 percent from the field, 6.3 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks. Connor TenHove averages a double-double with 15.6 points shooting 55.6 from beyond the arc, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, Quinton Green averages 14.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists, and lastly, Isaiah Speelman scores 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

Cedarville leads the all-time series against the Dragons 43-39, with their last meeting coming earlier this season on Jan. 2 when the Yellow Jackets won 101-77.
