Tiffin Hangs Tough with #24 Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio - Tiffin men's basketball put forth a great effort against 24th-ranked Findlay on Friday, but the Oilers hung on late to defeat the Dragons 89-74.

Thomas Hickman led TU in scoring with 16 points and added four assists. Trent Williams followed with 14 points and six assists, while Wesley Jordan had ten points and five rebounds.

Findlay was led by forward Nathan Bruns, who tallied a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Oilers outrebounded the Dragons by a wide margin of 52-30, and tallied 21 assists to TU's 12. Findlay also had 56 points in the paint to Tiffin's 28, but the Dragons were able to shoot better from deep (34.8% to 30%) to make up some of the difference.

Tiffin scored the first five points of the game on a Williams jumper from the top of the key and a triple from Braxton Foreman. Findlay quickly erased the deficit, though, and the Dragons and Oilers battled back and forth for much of rest of the opening half.

Jaeden King put the Dragons in front, 27-25, with a triple at the 7:46 mark of the first period, but that would be the last lead of the game for Tiffin. Findlay proceeded to score ten-straight points to take an eight-point lead and went into the break ahead by seven, 48-41.

Tiffin was resilient, though, battling throughout the afternoon. The Dragons cut the deficit to four on a Tanner Johnson triple at the 14:34 mark, and again cut it down to five on an Eric Turner layup with 11:31 to play.

Findlay was able to stem each run that Tiffin put together, however, and the lead gradually built to double digits before the Oilers took the 89-74 win.

Tiffin will stay on the road for their next game, visiting Walsh next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. After that, the Dragons are set to wrap up the December portion of their schedule by hosting Malone on Saturday, Dec. 19.
