Men's Basketball Announces Addition of Thompson

Tiffin men's basketball has announced the signing of junior college transfer Jacob Thompson to add to their 2020 recruiting class.

Thompson is a 6'8" forward/center from Urbana, Illinois. He spent the past two seasons playing at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois after prepping at Milford High School.

"Jacob is exactly the type of hardworking, team-oriented, tough student-athlete that we were looking to add," said TU head coach Tom Church. "We desperately needed to add some depth and size to our frontline and Jacob will bring just that. Jacob and I had great conversations throughout his recruitment process and I am very impressed with his maturity and work ethic both on the court and in the classroom."

"I chose Tiffin because of their academics that can help further my goals, and because something special is being built in the men's basketball program both on and off the court," said Thompson.

During his sophomore season at Kaskaskia, Thompson averaged 9.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game while recording 32 blocks on the year. He was also effective on the offensive glass, securing over two offensive rebounds per game. He scored in double-figures in 15 contests, highlighted by a season-best 21 points against Lindenwood University Belleville on Nov. 4.

"Jacob made great progress between his freshman and sophomore seasons," said Kaskaskia head coach Brian Hancock. "He played a key role for us in the frontcourt this year and brought a steady scoring and rebounding presence throughout the season. His leadership in practices, games, and the classroom was greatly appreciated."

In 2018-19, Kaskaskia reached the NJCAA Sweet 16. The team finished 2019-20 with a record of 17-15.

"Jacob is an extremely coachable player with a high IQ in all areas," said Milford High coach, David Caldwell. "He has a great work ethic in the classroom, weight room, and any other activity he chooses to encounter."
