NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Tiffin men's basketball ran into a hot-shooting Walsh University squad on Thursday evening, falling to the Cavaliers 94-71.
Walsh shot 58.5% from the field to 38.7% for the Dragons, and also went 9-17 (52.9%) from deep. Meanwhile, the Dragons took 34 triples, making seven (20.4%). The Cavaliers also had a significant advantage on the glass, pulling down 42 rebounds to Tiffin's 23.
TU had three players in double-figures as Shane Waldon recorded a team-high 16, Thomas Hickman notched 13, and Justin Miller tallied 12. Waldon also registered six rebounds and two steals for the Dragons.
Shane Waldon got the scoring started with a jump hook in the lane, and Joshua Williams gave Tiffin a quick 5-2 lead by getting to the line twice and converting three of four foul shots. Back-to-back triples from Walsh ignited a 9-0 Cavalier run, though, putting the home team up 11-5 at the 14:51 mark.
Justin Miller put a temporary stop to the Walsh run with a deep triple, but the Cavaliers extended their lead to 22-11 midway through the opening half.
Walsh kept their momentum flowing, shooting a hot 62.5% from the field and 57.1% from deep in the opening half to head into the break with a 47-23 lead over the Dragons.
Tiffin did not fare much better in the second-half, as the Cavaliers led by as many as 38 points before taking the 94-71 victory.
The Dragons will look to bounce back on Saturday as they face Malone University on the road at 3:00 p.m.
