Dragons Open Season With G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge

The Tiffin University men's basketball team will open the 2017 season this Friday, battling Ohio Dominican at home. The Dragons' open their season at home for the first time since the 2014 season, when they hosted Kentucky Wesleyan.

Series Record: Since the 2010-11 season the Panthers and Dragons are dead even with each team winning seven games.

Last Matchup: The Panthers won the last matchup 82-74 last February. Tiffin was led by Austin Adams with 28 points and eight rebounds.

Seeing Red: Tiffin forward Austin Adams sure enjoyed playing against Ohio Dominican last season, averaging 29.5 points per game and 14.0 rebounds. Adams recorded the only 30-point and 20-rebound game in Tiffin history against the Panthers on January 14.

Panthers: Ohio Dominican returns all 14 players from last season's team, including all starters. The Panthers finished 14-12 overall, their best season since 2007. The Panthers have been picked to finish tied for 5th in the G-MAC preseason coaches' poll, collecting 77 points. 

Division I Exhibition: The Panthers got some game action in last weekend, taking on the University of Dayton Flyers at UD Arena. The Panthers fell 79-61 to the Flyers and were led by Sam Hickey with 19 points on 5 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Dragons: Tiffin will rely heavily on the experience of Alex Brown, Austin Adams, and Terrell Mabins. Tiffin returns only 35% of their scoring last season, with six players on the roster having game experience at the NCAA Division II level. Tiffin does have a talented group of newcomers that includes a junior college all-american.

Series Record: Tiffin holds an 8-6 advantage over the Storm since the 2010-11 season. The two teams split the season series last year.

Last Matchup: Tiffin earned a tough road win the last time these two took to the court. The Dragons topped the Storm 73-69, led by the double-double turned in by Austin Adams with 24 points and 10 boards. Tiffin shot 59.6% from the field, and dominated the paint with 48 of their 73 points coming in the low post.

What Can Brown Do For You?: Alex Brown has had a great career at Tiffin, sitting just short of a few milestones. Alex needs 86 points to reach 1,000 for his career, he is just 108 rebounds short of 500, and 54 assists shy of 200 for his career. Last season Brown averaged 9.7 points per game and hit 40.3% of his attempts from the field.

Maturing Storm: Lake Erie returns 11 players from last season, including four starters. Lake Erie will lean on guards Gabe Kynard and Brogan Scott to handle the backcourt. Lake Erie is excited about the return of forward Michael Morris after missing last year do to injury. In 2015, Morris averaged 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Storm.
