Dragons take on Panthers in Homecoming tussle

Tiffin University (7-0, 5-0 G-MAC) takes on Kentucky Wesleyan (3-4, 2-3) in the 2023 Homecoming game at 4 pm at Frost Kalnow Stadium.

Tiffin University tallied 38 second-quarter points en route to the second-highest Division II single-game scoring mark in school history, beating Kentucky Wesleyan 72-13 on Nov. 5, 2022. TU's 72 points tied the school's mark against Seton Hill in 2005 and was just one point shy of the record of 73 set against Missouri-Rolla in 2007. Overall TU had 30 first downs to KWC's 16 and outgained the Panthers 450-206. They held KWC to -8 yards rushing.
 
Overall TU has dominated the series, posting a 7-0 mark and outscoring the Panthers 293-91 overall. In the Cris Reisert era, Tiffin has outscored KWC 186-47 including a 59-6 score in 2019, a 21-0 shutout in 2020, and a 72-13 mark last season.
 
KWC NOTES
 
Following a 3-1 start to the season, the Panthers have lost their last three games to fall to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the G-MAC. They are coming off the back of a 44-14 defeat to Hillsdale on the road and are currently in a tie for fifth place in the conference standings with Ohio Dominican.
 
KWC OFFENSE
 
• Offensively, KWC ranks third in the G-MAC for yards gained per game with 352.3. However, it has not translated to finding the endzone as they rank just seventh in points per game with 21.6.
• Quarterback Christian Arrambide is seemingly a one-man show for the Panthers as he leads the team in both passing with 1,786 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air, as well as rushing with 165 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He accounts for 18 of KWC's 21 touchdowns so far this year.
• Leading tailback for KWC is Camran McNeil, who has carried the ball 27 times for a total of 132 yards. He has tallied one rushing touchdown and averages 4.9 yards per carry.
• Camden Williams is far and away Arrambide's favorite target, leading the team in every receiving category including receptions (28), receiving yards (595), and receiving touchdowns (7). He is followed by brothers Khia and Kam Sherrard with 377 and 302 yards respectively.


KWC DEFENSE

• The Panthers rank seventh in the conference for both points allowed per game (30.6) and yards allowed per game (393.3).
• Linebacker Zereoue Johnson leads KWC in total tackles with 56, which also ranks third in the G-MAC. He has added two tackles for loss and a sack as well.
• He is followed by defensive lineman Bishop Byrd with 48 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Alongside him is Kajuan Hardesty who leads the team in both tackles for loss with five and total sacks with 3.5. 
• The secondary is led by Najai Watson with 26 total tackles and accounts for four caused turnovers with three interceptions and a forced fumble.

 

TIFFIN NOTES

The Dragons have broken into the AFCA Top 25 for the first time this season, coming in at number 23. Tiffin is the only G-MAC school ranked nationally and has been steadily climbing the polls over the course of its 7-0 start. TU is coming off the back of a 50-0 victory over Lake Erie to improve to 5-0 in conference play.

TIFFIN OFFENSE

• Tiffin's offense ranks second in the nation in both total offense and offensive first downs. It also ranks third in rushing offense and fourth in scoring offense.
Kason Martin has amassed 1,611 passing yards on 129 completions as well as 16 passing touchdowns. He averages 230.1 passing yards per game and boasts a QB efficiency rating of 154.0.
• Running back Ronald Blackman leads the Dragons in rush attempts (94), rushing yards (733), and yards per game (104.7), while reaching the endzone six times. Carson Gresock had a big week against the Storm last week and now ranks second on the team in rushing yards with 426 and adds a team-high seven rushing touchdowns, tied with Tyrese Banks-Dorn
Josh Lewis has been Martin's go-to receiver with 26 catches for 452 yards and six touchdowns, leading TU in each of those categories. Tight end Cole Schnieder has recorded the second-most catches with 19 for a total of 179 yards. Jalen Thomas follows with 19 catches for 237 yards and four touchdowns.


TIFFIN DEFENSE

• Defensively, Tiffin ranks highly in several national categories including second in both turnover margin and turnovers gained. The Dragons are also sixth in defensive touchdowns, seventh in defensive pass efficiency, and eighth in both interceptions and fumbles recovered.
Ramond Jackson narrowly holds the lead for most tackles on the team with 37 followed closely by Jesse Connell (36) and Patrick Tueimeh (34).
• Jackson has tallied two interceptions which trails only defensive back Chucky Lewis with a team-high four on the year. Lewis also leads TU in pass breakups with four, followed by Jesse Johnson and Caleb Streat each with three.
Robert Holtz leads the way in both tackles for loss with 9.5 and sacks with 6.5, which also ranks second in the G-MAC.
