Dragons hit the road to Hillsdale

Tiffin University (3-2, 3-0 GMAC) will take on Hillsdale (3-2, 2-1) in a conference road contest Oct. 8 at 4 pm.

Tiffin holds a 6-9 record against Hillsdale but has won two of the last three meetings, winning in 2019 35-24 and winning in 2020 28-7. In 2018 the Dragons fell on the road 48-26. Overall TU has won four of the last seven contests. They have been outscored over the 15 game-series 436-346. 

LAST TIME OUT

Tiffin's 2021 Homecoming football game on Oct. 2 proved to be a rainy and sloppy affair for both teams, as a late charge by the TU offense came up just short in a 24-21 loss to Hillsdale.
A combined 6 fumbles and 3 interceptions during torrential rains during most of the contest marred the GMAC opener for both teams. With four total turnovers (3 interceptions and a fumble), most of the miscues went against the Dragons.
 
HILLSDALE OFFENSE
 
- Luke Keller is the starting quarterback for the Chargers this season and has led them to a 3-2 record with wins over Lake Erie, Walsh, and Missouri S&T. Through the air, Keller has thrown for 965 yards, with a 61.1 completion percentage, and thrown for 10 touchdowns.
- Keller's main target this year has been Isaac TeSlaa who has 34 catches for 657 yards and eight touchdowns, and teammate Tim Boyd who has ten receptions for 112 yards. 
- Michael Herzog leads the backfield with 99 rushes for 452 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He is also a threat in the passing game as he tallied nine catches for 50 yards this season. Herzog is fourth in the conference in all-purpose yards with 621 total yards averaging 124.2 yards per game, 452 rushing yards, 33 receiving yards, and 136 kick return yards. 

 

HILLSDALE DEFENSE

- The Chargers defense is led by Vince Francescone who has 38 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, and two interceptions, Kyle Kudla is first on the team with 44 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery, and Julius Graber has recorded 34 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one interception, and two pass breakups. 
- Riley Tolsma leads the defensive front with 15 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks and teammate Kendall Tobin registered 14 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks this season.  

 

TIFFIN OFFENSE

- The Dragons' offense has averaged 31.8 points per game this season.
- TU is second in the conference in points per game, second in the conference in total yards at 2134 for an average of 426.8 yards per game, is first in the conference in rushing yards with 940, fourth in the conference in passing yards with 1194 yards, and fourth in the conference in total touchdowns with 17.
- Christian Carter is 111-for-172 completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 1190 yards and has thrown for five passing touchdowns. Carter is second on the team in rushing as he has 44 rushes for 240 yards and six rushing touchdowns.
- Darius Pinnix leads all rushers as he rushed 85 times for 472 yards and four touchdowns, and teammate Justin Felder is third on the team in rushing as he has 35 attempts for 127 yards.  
- Anthony Lowe has been unstoppable as he has registered 45 catches for 498 yards and one touchdown. The senior is first in the conference in all purpose yards with 149 punt return yards and 211 kick return yards along with three returns for touchdowns.  
- Josh Lewis rounds out the group with 16 catches for 192 yards, and two touchdowns, and Jalen Thomas has also put up big numbers with 16 receptions for 188 yards, and two touchdowns.

 

TIFFIN DEFENSE

- Tiffin's defense stays dominant as they are second in the conference in points allowed at 17.0 per game, third in the conference in total yards allowed at 302.4 yards per game, first in the GMAC in rushing defense only allowing 91.6 rushing yards per game, third in the conference in pass defense allowing 210.8 passing yards per game, leads the conference in sacks with 16, and leads the conference in takeaways with seven interceptions.
- Sir Zion Dance leads the defense as he has 39 tackles this season, 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one block, followed by teammate Barry Brown who has 28 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one pass breakup.
- Patrick Tueimeh is third on the team with 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one pass break up, and one block. 
- Charlie Cleveland has registered 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackle for loss, and two quarterback hurries.
- Jermaine Wimpye is tied for first on the team in interceptions with Chucky Lewis with three. Lewis has 21 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups, while Wimpye has 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass breakups.
- Montez Kelley leads the team in sacks with 3.5 this season, he has 5 tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery, and Latrell Robinson has 13 tackles this year, and one sack.
