Dragons tangle with Lake Erie at Homecoming

Tiffin University (2-2, 2-0 GMAC) will take on Lake Erie (1-3, 1-1) at Homecoming Oct. 1 at Frost Kalnow Stadium. Game time is 4 pm.

Tiffin holds a 6-3 record against the Storm, having won five in a row. They hold a combined scoring advantage of 241-108 over those five meetings. TU is also averaging over 48 points per game against the Storm over that stretch. 

LAST TIME OUT

Tiffin University put together 21 unanswered points in the second half to race past Lake Erie for their first GMAC win of the year 35-17 on Oct. 9, 2021. TU's defense forced three turnovers while also recording a sack to lead the Dragons' attack. The squad also allowed just 100 rushing yards and made big plays to pull away from the Storm.

LAKE ERIE OFFENSE

- Gerald Gardner is the starting quarterback for the Storm this season and has led them to a 1-3 record with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan. Through the air, Gardner has thrown for 1320 yards which is first in the conference, with a 64.4 completion percentage, and thrown for 10 touchdowns.
- Lake Erie has three receivers over 300 yards already this season. First is Nate Dantley who has 23 catches for 314 yards and two touchdown receptions, Peyton Brown has 18 receptions for a team-high 361 yards and three touchdown catches, and Jovohn Tucker registered 18 catches for 311 yards and a team-high four touchdown receptions. 
- Raphael Jones Jr. leads the backfield with 72 rushes for 314 yards and five rushing touchdowns. He is also a threat in the passing game as he tallied nine catches for 50 yards this season. 

 

LAKE ERIE DEFENSE

- The Storm's defense is led by Cameren Gordhaus who has 35 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and one interception, Karry Debose is second on the team with 29 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery, and Jayme Vincente-Colon has recorded 26 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and one pass breakup. 
- Michael Cox leads the defensive front with 14 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, and two sacks, and teammate Shawn Lawson registered nine tackles and two sacks this season.  

 

TIFFIN OFFENSE

- The Dragons' offense has averaged 26.9 points per game this season.
- TU is fifth in the conference in points per game, third in the conference in total yards at 1810 for an average of 405.0 yards per game, is first in the conference in rushing yards with 734, fourth in the conference in passing yards with 886 yards, and fifth in the conference in total touchdowns with 13.
- Christian Carter is 86-for-139 completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 886 yards, and has thrown for five passing touchdowns. Carter is second on the team in rushing as he has 35 rushes for 166 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
- Darius Pinnix leads all rushers as he rushed 68 times for 377 yards and three touchdowns, and teammate Justin Felder is third on the team in rushing as he has 33 attempts for 123 yards.  
- Anthony Lowe has been unstoppable as he has registered 34 catches for 359 yards and one touchdown, Jalen Thomas has also put up big numbers with 15 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns, and Josh Lewis rounds out the group with 13 catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns.  

 

TIFFIN DEFENSE

- Tiffin's defense stays dominant as they are second in the conference in points allowed at 14.5 per game, third in the conference in total yards allowed at 286.8 yards per game, first in the GMAC in rushing defense only allowing 83.0 rushing yards per game, and fourth in the conference in pass defense allowing 203.8 passing yards per game.
- Sir Zion Dance leads the defense as he has 33 tackles this season, 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one block, followed by teammate Barry Brown who has 23 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one sack, and one pass breakup.
- Charlie Cleveland has registered seven tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, and two quarterback hurries.
- Jermaine Wimpye is tied for first on the team in interceptions with Chucky Lewis wth two apiece. Lewis has 19 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups, while Wimpye has 15 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass breakup.
- Montez Kelley leads the team in sacks with 3.5 with 4.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery, and Latrell Robinson has 13 tackles this year and one sack.
