Carrie McCurrach competed in the novice over fences division against the top 16 riders in the country at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships (IHSA), held at the famous Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky on May 4, 2017.

The IHSA consists of 416 teams with 6,642 participants in the Hunt Seat discipline. Nationally the novice division consists of over 1,300 riders.

Carrie galloped to her first fence to show the judges that she belonged at the national level. McCurrach was able to use her training and skills to achieve the outstanding title of sixth in the nation. She competed against schools such as Akron, Brown, George Town, Nebraska, and Stanford.

Carrie is the first hunt seat rider to represent Tiffin University at nationals. Her sixth place finish also marks her as the highest placed Dragon in either discipline since the last national qualifier Alum Michelle (Holman) Hinojosa placed 8th in the western discipline in 2014.
