Bach's big day leads to split with Panthers

Tiffin University (11-25, 3-17 G-MAC) cranked up the offense in game two against Kentucky Wesleyan, winning 15-10 after dropping the opener 6-5.

Ben Bach led the way with 6 RBI in the game including two doubles and a home run.

TU got on the board in the first inning. Tim Orr singled and came home on Bach's double. Aidan Grabowski added to the lead with a solo home run in the second inning.

In the third, Logan Swonger and Orr both reached on errors, and Bach brought everyone home with a three-run shot that put TU up 5-1.

The Panthers rallied between the third and sixth innings, scoring 8 runs to take an 8-5 lead into the seventh inning.

In the seventh, Orr walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Griffin Stevens then singled him home as TU narrowed the gap.

Down 8-6 in the eighth, Ty Hatfield walked and moved up on a wild pitch. Hilario DeLaPaz drove him home with a single. Swonger then walked and Orr followed with a double for 2 RBI. Stevens walked, and Bach got 2 more RBI with a double as TU scored 5 runs to take the lead.

Leading 11-10, TU tacked on four more runs in the ninth inning. Hatfield singled and Dawson Groch was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. DeLaPaz then walked and Swonger got one run home with a sacrifice fly. Orr was also hit by a pitch, and Stevens singled for two more runs. Another wild pitch allowed TU to get its final run.

Rob DeBastos started and went 4 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs. Evan Engle got the win in relief with one inning of scoreless work. Andrew Fairbrother also came in and pitched 1.1 innings of hitless ball for his second save.

Besides Bach, Stevens had 2 hits for 3 RBI while Orr and Hatfield both had 2 hits.

In the opener, Logan Fisher took the tough loss, going 5 innings and fanning 6 while allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs.

TU opened its scoring in the third. Grabowski walked and Orr singled. Stevens drove in the run with a single.

In the fifth trailing 4-1, Grabowski and Swonger singled and Stevens doubled in both runners. Bach followed with another double for another RBI as TU tied the score 4-4.

The Panthers came back in the bottom of the fifth to score two more runs and retake the lead.

TU got another run in the sixth but could get no closer. Ricky Havrilla was hit by a pitch and Groch came in to pinch run. Grabowski singled and Groch advanced to third after a flyout to center field. Groch then came home on a balk.

Stevens had 2 hits with a double for 3 RBI while Grabowski also had 2 hits.
