Dragons drop final two games to Findlay

Tiffin University (9-23, 1-15 G-MAC) battled but came up short in two close losses to Findlay 4-2 and 9-7.

In the opener, Gunnar Boehm took a tough loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing just 3 hits and 3 earned runs along with 6 walks.

The Dragons could not generate much offense for Boehm, totaling just three hits.

Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Ben Bach hit a solo home run for TU's lone extra-base hit.

In the fourth inning, TU had the bases loaded but could not bring them home as a foul out to left field ended the threat.

Down 4-1 in the seventh, Logan Swonger reached on an error at first base and TJ Truso walked. A fielder's choice moved Swonger to third, and he scored on a Bach sacrifice fly. With the tying run at the plate, a groundout to third ended the game.

Though the Dragons got more offense in game two, a similar pattern emerged. 

in the second trailing 1-0, Aidan Grabowski, Alex Diehl, and Carter Klausing all walked. Swonger then singled to drive in two runs, and an errant pickoff throw by the catcher let another run in as TU jumped ahead 3-1.

Findlay chipped away at the lead. In the sixth with the score tied 3-3, TU got three more runs. Tim Orr and Bach singled and Dawson Groch walked. A fielder's choice brought Orr home, and Hilario DeLaPaz smacked a triple to bring in two more runs as TU vaulted ahead 6-3.

Findlay hit Tiffin's bullpen after starter Logan Fisher left the game. The Oilers totaled 4 runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to jump ahead 9-6.

In the ninth, Swonger walked and Truso singled to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs. The runners moved up on a ground out to first, and Bach got one run home with a sacrifice fly. After Ricky Havrilla reached on an error at shortstop, the Dragons had the winning run at the plate. Grabowski struck out swining to end the game.

Fisher went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs while fanning 10. Andrew Siler took the loss, lasting one-third of an inning and giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits. Mat Carden, Steven Sexton, and Ben Hubert combined to cover the final 2.1 innings in relief, allowing 2 earned runs.

Orr had 3 hits to lead the team, while Bach added 2 more hits.
