Tiffin falls in finale at Hillsdale

Tiffin University (9-19, 1-11 G-MAC) could not salvage a win in its finale at Hillsdale, falling 16-12 and 10-3.

The bats came alive for both teams in the opener as they combined for 29 hits. Tiffin's Logan Fisher took the loss, allowing 8 earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Brayden Offenbacher followed in relief, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing 7 runs (3 earned) as TU fell behind early.

Tiffin took the lead initially, tallying two runs in the second inning. Griffin Stevens singled and Michael Zinter drilled a two-run home run to put TU on the board.

After Hillsdale scored 15 runs in the first four innings, the Dragons tried to come back. Trailing 15-2 in the fifth, Ben Bach walked and Zinter was hit by a pitch. Connor Huzicka then doubled home one run. Ty Hatfield singled home another, and the Dragons got a third run on Logan Swonger's sacrifice fly.

TU got another run in the sixth when Andrew Fairbrother smacked a home run.

TU tried to put together a rally in the 7th, scoring six runs. Hatfield walked and Swonger was hit by a pitch. Aidan Grabowski then doubled for an RBI. Patrick Dinnen was also hit by a pitch, and Tim Orr followed with a single for two more RBIs. The rally continued when Nate Adelman walked, and Zinter singled home another run. A sacrifice fly by Huzicka led to another run, and Hatfield singled home TU''s final run as the Dragons came up short.

Zinter finished with 2 hits with a home run for 3 RBI while Stevens also had 2 hits. Fairbrother added a home run while Grabowski and Huzicka had doubles.

In game two, Gunnar Boehm started and went 3.2 innings, allowing 10 runs (6 earned). Zach Johnson and Scotty Adelman pitched in relief, covering 4.1 innings and allowing just one hit but the Dragons were unable to generate offense with a total of six hits.

Stevens hit a home run for Tiffin's first run but the Chargers posted 6 runs in the fourth inning to push their leada to 10-1.

In the eighth, TU got two more runs. Swonger and Hatfield walked and Orr followed with a single. A wild pitch allowed one run to cross the plate and, after a Bach walk, a double play got another run home.

Overall Orr had 4 of the 6 hits, while Stevens had the other two hits with a home run.
