Wilkins, Boswell Lead Dragons in All-Conference Honors

Tiffin University had 11 athletes selected to the 2022 GMAC All-Conference team.

Joe Wilkins was voted co-coach of the year for his team's performance during the 2022 regular season as they were the regular season champions with a conference record of 22-6 this season and 29-19 overall record.

Michael Boswell was named Pitcher of the Year as he led the GMAC with a 1.96 ERA, an 8-3 record starting in 13 games, four complete games, and two shut outs, pitched 78.0 innings, allowed 26 runs with 17 earned, led the league with 98 strikeouts, averaged 11.31 strikeouts per nine innings, and led the GMAC holding opponents batting average to .187.

Tommy Thamann was also selected as the Elite 25 recipient as the baseball student-athlete with the highest GPA amongst the tournament-qualifying schools.

The Dragons had four First Team selections with Michael Boswell and Tyler Wehrle as starting pitchers, Tim Orr in the DH spot, and Griffin Stevens over at second base.

Gunnar Boehm was named Second Team All-GMAC for his performance this year.

Tiffin had four Third Team selections including Jake Shier at third base, Zach Campbell in the outfield, Marino Pugnetti in the outfield, and Mat Carden as a relief pitcher.

Tyler Wehrle was named Second Team All-Conference last season. He is second on the team in ERA at 3.24 which is third in the conference, first on the team in K/9 at 11.88, second in the conference in opponent batting average at .219, and is fourth in the conference in earned runs allowed at 24 through 66.2 innings pitched.

Griffin Stevens tied for second in the conference in batting average at .420, tied for first in the conference in hits at 81, and seventh in the conference in RBI with 50. Last year he was named First Team All-Conference, NCBWA Second Team All-Region, and Rawlings First Team All-Region.

Tim Orr is third in the conference in batting average at .415, second in the conference in on-base plus slugging at 1.250, third in the conference in slugging at .774, third in the conference in RBI with 62, first in the conference in triples with six, eighth in the conference in home runs with 11, and last year received Second Team All-Conference honors.

Gunnar Boehm is third on the team in ERA and sixth in the conference at 4.03, ninth in the conference in opponent batting average at .254, fourth on the team in K/9 at 11.84, and third in the conference in earned runs allowed at 23 through 51.1 innings pitched.

Jake Shier was named First-Team All-Conference last season. This season he posted a .342 batting average that is fourth on the team and 15th in the conference, was fifth in the team in on-base percentage at .461 and 13th in the conference, had 41 hits, scored 36 runs, 20 RBI, and led the team with eight stolen bases through 34 appearances.

Marino Pugnetti is fifth on the team and 19th in the conference with a batting average of .338, second on the team in runs scored and 13th in the conference with 47, leads the team with three grand slams this season and is 14th in the conference in on-base percentage at .448.

Zach Campbell has had a solid year as he is fifth on the team in batting average at .307, has a .465 on-base percentage that ranks third on the team and seventh in the conference, and has scored the third-most runs on the team with 29 RBI this season.

Lastly, the freshman right-hander Mat Carden made 18 appearances in relief for the Dragons to earn him Third Team All-GMAC honors. He pitched 21.1 innings, allowed 13 hits, eight runs with five of them earned, struck out 28, averaging 11.81 per nine innings, and had a 2.11 ERA.
