Dragons bounce back with 14-2 win over Cedarville

Tiffin University (29-18) bounced back with a strong showing on day two of the GMAC Baseball Championships, dispatching Cedarville 14-2.

TU's three pitchers combined to allow just two hits while also providing generous run support highlighted by a 7-run fifth inning.

Tyler Wehrle got the win with five innings of no-hit ball, fanning 7 along the way. Francisco Olivarez and Kyler Archual finished the final two innings and allowed one hit each.

TU got on the board in the second inning with five runs. Cal Brazier walked and reached second on a ground out to the pitcher. Isaiah Mirabal then drove him home with a single. Zach Campbell and Marino Putnetti were both hit by pitches, and Griffin Stevens responded with a two-RBI single. After Tim Orr walked, Jake Shier then singled home two more runs.

TU tacked on another run in the third. Mirabal, TJ Truso, and Pugnetti all walked, and Stevens got another RBI by getting hit by a pitch.

TU blew the game open with a huge fifth inning. Truso reached on an error at first while Campbell and Pugnetti followed with singles. Stevens then singled home two runs. Orr drove home another run with a single, and Shier blasted a home run to drive in three runs. Brazier and Mirabal walked with Nich Green getting a single, and Campbell lifted a sacrifice fly to the outfield to make the score 13-0, Dragons.

Tiffin scored its final run in the sixth inning. Stevens singled, and Orr then singled him to third base. Shier drove in the final run with another sac fly.

Overall Shier had two hits with a home run for 6 RBI, while Stevens had 3 hits for 5 RBI. Orr also had two hits in the game.

The Dragons will now take on the loser of the Ashland/Kentucky Wesleyan game at 1:15 pm May 13. A win there would have the Dragons play again May 13 at 6 pm against a team to be determined.
