Boswell sets new career wins record in game one win over Trevecca Nazarene

The Tiffin University baseball team split the twinbill with Trevecca on day two as they won game one 8-5 and dropped game two 21-4.

The Dragons improve to 22-15 overall and 17-5 in the GMAC, while the Trojans improve to 31-10 overall and 16-8 in the GMAC.

Game One:
It was all Trevecca at first as they scored the first run of the game in the first inning as Goolsby doubled to left-center to score Odom. In the second inning, the Trojans added four runs on three hits and three errors to take a 5-0 lead over the Dragons.

Both teams went two scoreless innings before the Dragons broke the shutout in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Campbell started the rally with a single to right-center field, then Marino Pugnetti doubled to score Campbell. Griffin Stevens singled to center field to score Pugnetti, cutting the Trojans' lead to 5-2. Tim Orr hit a single and Jake Shier was walked to load the bases for Cal Brazier who was walked to score one run. Next, Nich Green doubled to center field scoring Orr, Shier, and Brazier to take a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Tiffin added two more runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-5 lead. With runners on the corners with two outs, Tim Orr was walked on a passed ball that allowed Evan Engle to score. Shier was then walked to load up the bases and Cal Brazier reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman to score Stevens from third to seal the 8-5 win over Trevecca in game one.

Michael Boswell recorded the win to become the winningest pitcher in TU history, picking up his sixth win of the season and his second complete game. He pitched all 7.0 innings, allowed one earned run on five hits, and tallied a season-high 12 strikeouts. Boswell's 24 career wins breaks the mark held by Gregg Prenzlin (23 wins from 1994-97).

Nich Green went 1-for-4 and had a team-high three RBI while Zach Campbell went 2-for-3 and scored one run. Griffin Stevens went 2-for-4, scored two runs, and recorded one RBI, and Tim Orr went 2-for-3, scored one run, and registered one RBI.

Game Two:
The Trojans' bats caught on fire as they outscored Tiffin 21-4, starting with two runs in the first inning.

Tiffin responded with a run in the bottom of the second as Tommy Thamann singled to bring in Shier from third to cut the lead to 2-1.

Trevecca added six more in the third inning to lead 8-1. But Tiffin had an answer as Griffin Stevens homered with Pugnetti on base to bring the score to 8-3. Tiffin added another in the fifth off a second Stevens home run to come within four of the visitors at 8-4.

Trevecca went on to score four in the sixth, three in the seventh, five in the eighth, and one in the ninth to take a 21-4 win over the Dragons.

Francisco Olivarez took the loss as he got the starting nod on the mound. He pitched 3.0 innings, allowed eight runs on six hits, and struck out three.

Griffin Stevens led the team as he went 2-for-4 with two home runs, scored twice, and had a team-high three RBI, Jake Shier went 4-for-5 in the game and scored one run, and Tommy Thamann went 1-for-4 and had one RBI.
