Brazier and Orr Power Hitting Push Dragons Past Rival Findlay

The Tiffin University baseball team defeated GMAC rival Findlay in two games today, winning game one 9-6 and game two 10-7.

The Dragons improve to 19-14 overall and 14-4 in conference play, while the Oilers fall to 14-20 overall and 10-8 in conference play.

Game One:

The Oilers started strong, hitting a home run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Findlay went on to lead 6-0 after five innings.

Tiffin finally got on the board in the seventh inning as Marino Pugnetti hit a two-RBI single to left field to score TJ Truso and Cal Brazier. Griffin Stevens hit a single up the middle, scoring Zach Campbell from second. With runners on the corners Tim Orr singled to center field, scoring Pugnetti. Nich Green followed that with another single to cut the Oilers' lead to 6-5 at the end of the seventh.

After a scoreless eighth inning from both teams, Orr hit a lead-off triple to center field, then Green brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 6-6. With the bases loaded Tommy Thamann hit a two-RBI single to right field to give the Dragons an 8-6 lead. Tiffin wasn't done yet as Campbell hit a bunt single to first base to score Kole Klasic from third.

Francisco Olivarez started the game and pitched 4.1 innings, allowed four runs on five hits, and had six strikeouts. Scotty Adelman got the win in relief as he pitched 2.0 innings, allowed zero hits, zero runs, and struck out four, and Mat Carden pitched the last inning to record his fourth save of the season.

Tim Orr led the Dragons, going 3-for-5 with a triple, one run, and one RBI, Marino Pugnetti went 2-for-5 with a double, scored one run, and had two RBI, Nich Green went 1-for-4 with two RBI, and Tommy Thamann went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Game Two:
Tiffin had a hot start as Cal Brazier hit a three-run homer to center field, scoring Orr and Campbell to take a 3-0 lead in the first.

The Oilers scored one run in the bottom of the second to cut the Dragons' lead to 3-1.

The Dragons loaded the bases in the top of the third with two walks and a single to right field. Isaiah Mirabal was walked to score a run. After a pitching change, Zach Campbell was walked to give Tiffin a 5-1 lead, then Marino Pugnetti singled to center field to score Truso to lead 6-1 after three innings. Findlay scored one run in the bottom of the third off a home run.

In the fifth inning, Tiffin added to their lead as Tim Orr came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a three-run double to left-center field to score Stevens, Campbell, and Mirabal to take a 9-2 lead over the Oilers.

Tiffin added one more run off a Pugnetti single to left field that socred Mirabal from second to lead 10-3 after six innings.

Findlay wasn't done yet, as it scored five runs in the last two innings, but good pitching from Logan Fisher shut the Oilers down and the Dragons took game two 10-7.

Michael Boswell registered the win as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowed two runs on five hits, and struck out four. Logan Fisher recorded the save as he pitched 0.1 innings and got the strikeout that ended the game.

Cal Brazier led the offense as he went 2-for-3 including a home run, scored two runs, and had three RBI, Tim Orr went 1-for-3, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Marino Pugnetti went 2-for-5 and tallied two RBI.
