Dragons Split Twinbill with Ashland

The Tiffin University baseball team went 1-1 in the doubleheader against Ashland, winning game one 9-5, and dropping game two 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh.

The Dragons improve to 13-12 overall and 8-2 in the GMAC, while the Eagles improve to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the GMAC.

Game One:

In the first inning, the Dragons' offense got on the board as Tim Orr hit a single to center field to score Marino Pugnetti from second to lead 1-0.

After two scoreless innings from both teams, Tiffin increased their lead in the fourth as Orr led off with a double to left field, then Cal Brazier singled to right field putting runners on the corners for Tommy Thamann. Thamann doubled to right-center field, scoring both runners to take a 3-0 lead.  

Ashland finally got on the board in the fifth as they scored five runs on four hits to lead 5-3.

One inning later Tiffin tied the game by scoring two runs. Thamann led off by getting hit by pitch and stealing second. With two outs and a runner on second Kole Klasic singled to left field to score Thamann from second. Klasic would go on to steal second and made it all the way to third on a passed ball as Zach Campbell was walked to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch to Pugnetti allowed Klasic to score to tie the game at 5-5.

Tim Orr hit his fifth home run of the season to give the Dragons a 6-5 lead. In the ninth, Tiffin would score three more runs as Isaiah Mirabal singled to left field with runners on first and second, scoring Danny Donnelly. Klasic singled to center field, scoring Mirabal and TJ Truso to seal the 9-5 win over the Eagles in game one.

Tim Orr led the team by going 3-for-5 with one home run, scored two runs, and had two RBI, Kole Klasic went 2-for-4, scored one run, and registered a team-high three RBI, and Tommy Thamann went 2-for-3 with a double, scored one run, and two RBI.

Game Two:

Game two was a defensive bout as neither team was able to score in the first four innings. Tiffin broke the deadlock in the fifth as Nich Green doubled to right field with Brazier on second to lead 1-0.

The Eagles tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth with an unearned run.

Tied 1-1 in the seventh, Ashland hit a sacrifice fly to left field with the bases loaded to take the 2-1 win over the Dragons.

Michael Boswell took the loss as he pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, and recording four strikeouts.

Nich Green led the offense, going 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double, and Marino Pugnetti and Griffin Stevens each went 1-for-3 in the game.
