Baseball team takes Game One in Doubleheader against ODU

The Tiffin University baseball team took game one against GMAC opponent ODU 4-3.

Game two was postponed due to darkness and will be finished before the start of the doubleheader tomorrow.

The Dragons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Zach Campbell reached first on an error by the centerfielder and advanced to second on the same error. Griffin Stevens advanced the runner with a single to put runners on the corners and Cal Brazier reached on a fielder's choice to score Campbell from third to lead 1-0.

TU scored again in inning two as Tommy Thamann tripled to center field to score Tim Orr from second, doubling their advantage.

The Panthers found their bats in the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead over the visitors. However, the Dragons tied the game at 3-3 the next inning off a home run by Isaiah Mirabal.

After three scoreless innings from both teams, the Dragons regained the lead in the top of the eighth. Stevens started the inning with a single to left field, then Brazier advanced stevens to second, and finally, Marino Pugnetti singled through the right side to score Stevens to lead 4-3.

Gunnar Boehm started the game and pitched 6.0 innings, allowed three earned runs on five hits, and struck out eight. Francisco Olivarez registered the win, his first of the season, as he pitched 1.2 innings, allowed two hits, zero runs, and struck out three, and Mat Carden recorded a save pitching 1.1 innings, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and struck out three.
