
The Tiffin University baseball team defeated Minnesota St. Mankato 6-3 with a four-run third inning.
The Dragons improve to 5-10 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 2-2.
Minnesota State got on the board first with a homer in the second inning.
The very next inning the Dragons scored four runs on four hits, starting with Isaiah Mirabal hitting a double to start the inning, then Marino Pugnetti hit a single to right field. Next, Griffin Stevens hit a single to move Pugnetti over to second base. Thomas Auth hit a home run to right field to take a 4-1 lead over the Mavericks.
In the top of the sixth, Tiffin increased their lead to 5-1 as Cal Brazier doubled to center field to bring in Auth.
The Dragons added one more run in the seventh after a Pugnetti triple to left field for the first hit of the inning, and Griffin Stevens brought Pugnetti home with a double to left field to lead 6-1.
The Mavericks scored two more runs, one in the seventh and one in the ninth, but strong pitching from the bullpen held them off, and the Dragons sealed the 6-3 win over Minnesota State.
Griffin Stevens led the Dragons with a three-hit performance, going 3-for-5 with one RBI, and scoring one run, Thomas Auth hit a three-run home run, going 1-for-2 at the plate, and scoring two runs, and Marino Pugnetti went 2-for-5, scored two runs, and had one RBI.
Michael Boswell got credit for the win as he pitched 6.0 innings, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out three.
