Interview with Coach Wilkins

The GMAC has released the 2020 Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, and Tiffin baseball has been selected to finish second in the West Division. The Dragons received 45 points and three first-place votes to garner the second spot in the GMAC West Division.

Coach Wilkins had a lot to say about the Dragons' upcoming season: "A few top returners are Cody Orr, Kyle Vance, Zach Campbell, Nich Green, and Aaron Gonzalez on the position player side of things. On the pitching end, Cody Orr, Michael Ross, Michael Boswell, Max Dakin, Jake Monnin, Tyler Wehrle and Aaron George headline the returners. We are looking forward to having more pitching depth. This should keep our top arms fresh for another tournament run."

"We need to find a way to get the offensive production we lost in John Heckman, Brayden Callihan, and Jack Dennis," said Wilkins. "Those guys really turned it on when we needed them the most. I have mentioned the returners that will impact us already but one, in particular, is Cody Orr. Cody hit over .600 in the postseason last year and also led the Prospect Summer Collegiate League in hitting. He is on a few draft boards and is electric on the bases and in the outfield. He is also one of our top arms on the mound and led us in innings pitched last year. He won some big games for us in the tournament and we are excited to see what he does this year."

Coach Wilkins is also confident in a few players who are new to the team this year: "As far as new guys go, Jeremiah Clarke has the potential to provide a ton of offense for us when going well, he should hit in the middle of the lineup. Jake Shier is another one to watch for. He has been taking all of his reps at 3B but can play a few positions because of his athletic ability. Noah Kandel is the most promising new arm. Noah is 6'6" and touched 93 on the gun this fall. He is still learning how to 'pitch' but has a huge upside. Cole Maxwell is another guy who is actually a returner but hasn't pitched much in the past. He had a great fall and we are looking forward to seeing what he does. Our No. 1 goal is to make it to Cary, NC. for the College World Series."
