Dragons Fall to Lions in High-Scoring Affair

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Runs came in bunches for both teams, but Saint Leo broke a 12-12 tie with a score in the bottom of the ninth to walk off Tiffin baseball on Saturday.

Noah Penney went 3-5 on the day with a run scored, while four other Dragons tallied two base knocks. Kyle Vance was one of them, also recording three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Cole Maxwell pitched well in relief, holding the Lions down through the middle innings as he went 3.2 frames allowing just one run on four hits.

After a scoreless first inning, Tiffin broke into the scoring column with four-spot in the top of the second. The Lions answered back with four of their own in the bottom of the inning and then added five more in the third to take a 9-4 lead.

The Dragons clawed back, picking up one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, before taking back the lead with five runs in the top of the sixth. Tiffin registered three run-scoring doubles in the inning, as Colin BeDell and Vance both tallied two-RBI doubles and John Heckman knocked home one run on his two-bagger.

The three-run advantage would not last, however, as Saint Leo scored a run in the bottom of the inning and then two more to tie things at 12 after seven.

The Dragons had an opportunity to plate the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth with two on and one out, but were unable to score, and the Lions managed to eke out a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Tiffin will wrap up their Spring Break trip by playing Saint Leo again tomorrow at noon in the final game of the three-game series.
