Three Dragons secure All American honors on day one of NCWWC Nationals

Three Tiffin University women's wrestling standouts will continue to see action on day two of the NCWWC National Championships held in Adrian, Michigan.

Olivia Shore will battle for a national title at 101 pounds, while Solana Mottola (130) and Taylor Hites (155) are in the running to finish as high as third. 

Overall Tiffin is tied for 6th of 15 teams with 69 points. Augsburg also has 69 points, and both teams are right behind Colorado Mesa with 70 points. McKendree leads the field with 158 points followed by King with 132.5.

Shore had an impressive run to reach the championship. She won by fall over Taylor Lindstrom (Chadron State College) in 0:12. In the quarterfinals, she won by tech fall over Katerina Pendergrass (Gannon University) 13-1. She then won by fall over Maddie Mackenzie (Simon Fraser University) in comeback fashion in 5:23.

Mottola, meanwhile, won by fall over Athena Willden (Lindenwood University) in 3:00 before doing the same to Lauren Mason (Simon Fraser University) in 2:26. In the semifinals, Cameron Guerin (McKendree University) posted a tech fall over Mottola 10-0.

Hites also had a strong showing. She won by tech fall over Sara Lake (Lindenwood University) 10-0 but then fell to Kayla Marano (McKendree University) by tech fall 10-0. Hites bounced back with two big wins, winning by fall over Jordan Johnston (Schreiner University) in 1:30 and by decision over Tiffani Baublitz (King University) 11-2.

Other wins by TU came from Shanna Morris at 101 pounds (10-0 over Chadron State), Trinity Oredina at 109 (Schreiner by pin 1:32), Grace Jones at 123 (Elmira by pin 0:27), Ariana Carrasquillo at 136 (Chadron State by pin 1:55, 13-3 over Colorado Mesa), Nia Miranda at 143 (10-0 over Simon Fraser, 6-0 over Limestone), Taryn Martin at 170 (5-1 over Limestone), and Hollie Espinoza at 191 (William Jewell by pin 2:17, Elmira by pin 0:51, injury default over Augsburg).
