Hites, Mottola shine at Bearcat Open

Taylor Hites placed second and Solana Mottola third at the Bearcat Open, leading Tiffin University's women's wrestling squad.

Hites (155 pounds) blasted through her first three opponents to get to the championship. She beat Gannon by pin in 4:01, posted a 12-1 tech fall victory over Lindenwood, and flattened Adrian in 2:53. She fell in the title bout 9-2 to Kayla Marano of McKendree.

Mottola (130) also lost only once at the Open. She opened with a pin over North Central in 2:25, shut out Lindenwood 12-0 in a tech fall win, and squeeked past St. Mary 8-6 to reach the semifinals. She then lost by pin to McKendree in 1:32 but bounced back with an injury default over Campbellsville before winning third place with a pin over Rebekah Garcia of Lyon in 2:21.

Arianna Carrasquillo (136) also got three wins in competition. She won all three bouts by pin over Gannon (1:34), Campbellsville (1:15), and Emmanuel (1:38). Her defeats were also by fall to NYC RTC in 1:33 and North Central in 32 seconds in the consolation semis.

Nia Miranda (143) got three victories. A 6-3 win over Oklahoma City, a pin in 1:23 over North Central, and an 8-1 score over Campbellsville pushed her into the semifinals. There she fell 14-1 to NYC RTC before losing in the consolation semis to Riley Aamold by fall in 2:09.

Also getting three wins on the day was Sidney Ramos (143). Her wins came against Lincoln by pin in 4:21, Fontbonne by pin in 1:01, and 10-3 over Adrian.

Also getting wins at the Open were Michal Buska at 136 (12-4 over Westminster), Aliya Martin at 155 (4-0 over Oklahoma City, 6-2 over Lindenwood), and Taryn Martin at 170 (forfeit over Fontbonne).
