Tiffin University went 2-1 on the first day of the NWCA National Duals, posting an upset of 5th-ranked Augsburg in the process.

TU (ranked 7th) beat Augsburg 27-19 while also beating Limestone 29-11. Their only loss came against top-ranked King 44-1. They will take on Wisconsin Stevens Point (ranked 10th) on Jan. 7 to open Day 2.

Against Augsburg TU got wins in four of the first five matches. Shanna Morris (101) and Sugey Ceja (116) both got forfeit wins. Grace Jones (123) got a pin in 1:58, while Solana Mottola (130) posted an 11-2 victory.

After Augsburg got three straight wins, it came down to the final two matches. Taryn Martin (170) posted a 7-3 decision, while Hollie Espinoza (191) put the win away with a pin in 4:31.

Against Limestone, Morris got another forfeit win. TU then strung together six straight victories to put the match away. Jones and Michal Buska (136) got pins in 2:58 and 2:02 respectively. Mottola had a 10-0 tech fall victory, Taylor Hites (155) also won by tech fall 14-4, Nia Miranda (143) got a slim 2-1 win, and Martin won 3-1.
