Dragons Open G-MAC Play with 3-1 Road Defeat

The Tiffin University (5-4 overall, 0-1 G-MAC) volleyball team traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for its conference opener against Trevecca Nazarene (4-8, 1-2).

The Dragons got off to a great start but struggled to continue the momentum, suffering a 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-13) loss.

The match began brightly for Tiffin as it jumped out to an early 9-3 lead. Kills by Alivia Rew and Wakaya Wilson extended the lead even further to 11-4. Trevecca found its footing offensively and slowly creeped it way back into the set, pulling to within four at 21-17. Back-to-back kills delivered by Josie Reinhart handed the Dragons a more comfortable six-point lead before yet another kill from Reinhart ended the set.

Tiffin finished the first set with a hitting percentage of .385. Unfortunately for the Dragons, they were unable to replicate that offensive efficiency for the remainder of the match.

The second set was close through the first half, but the Trojans ended with a 7-3 run to earn the victory and tie up the match, 1-1.

The Dragons fell behind early in both the third and fourth sets and were unable to recover from the deficit.

Reinhart led the Dragons with a season-high 12 kills and was followed by Wilson with nine and Rew with six. Wilson was one dig and one kill shy of a double-double with nine each. She tied with Marissa Sharpe and Addison Conti with nine digs each. Conti tallied 33 assists for the match in total.

Defensively, Olivia Karhoff racked up 23 digs, setting both a season and career high. Kenedi Goon recorded five total blocks while Kaylee Freund ended with four and added six kills as well.

The Dragons road-trip to start the season continues as they now head to Kentucky Wesleyan for their second match in as many days. Tiffin takes on the Panthers tomorrow, Sunday, September 17th at 3 p.m.
