Volleyball Defeats Slippery Rock 3-1

The Tiffin University volleyball team defeated Slippery Rock 3-1 in non-conference action today.

The Dragons improve to 7-11 overall and 4-3 in the GMAC, while Slippery Rock falls to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC.

The host jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the first set, but the Dragons fought back to bring the score to 8-7. However, Slippery Rock went on a 10-2 run to lead 18-9. Tiffin clawed back going on a 9-3 run to bring the score to 21-18 but Slippery Rock won the first set 25-21.

In the second set, the Dragons' offense caught fire as they went on an 8-2 run to lead 17-8. Slippery Rock put together a 4-0 run to come within five of the Dragons but the Dragons' offense kept putting on the pressure and won set two 25-17.

Tiffin jumped out to an early 7-4 lead but Slippery Rock countered with a 3-0 run to tie the game at 7-7. Slippery Rock then went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-13 lead. The Dragons, however, strung together an impressive 12-3 run to win the third set 25-18. 

The Dragons jumped out to another lead in the fourth set lead 9-6 but Slippery Rock wouldn't go away so easily, staying within two points of Tiffin. The two teams traded points until Slippery Rock went on a 3-0 run to bring the score to 18-17. The Dragons outscored the host 7-4 down the stretch to take the fourth set 25-21. 

Wakaya Wilson led the attack, recording 14 kills with a .154 hitting percentage, 19 digs, and one service ace. Taylor Peterson had an impressive day as well registering a season-high 13 kills with a .250 hitting percentage and nabbing two digs. Loryn Huffman led the team with 46 assists, three kills, and one block, and teammate Grace Schreiber tallied nine kills with a .304 hitting percentage, five digs, two solo blocks, one block assist, and two service aces.
