Avram/Lepinay win B draw at ITA Tournament

Tiffin University's Carina Avram and Anaelle Lepinay won the B draw doubles bracket at the ITA Tournament in Allendale, Michigan Sept. 24-26.

The duo swept through their five matches, beating Lake Superior State 8-3, then dispatching Maryville and Lewis by identical 8-5 scores. They then beat Walsh 8-2 in the semifinals before defeating Hillsdale 8-6 in the championship.

TU's other doubles team competed in the A bracket. Emily Barrett/Jessica Peace beat Davenport 8-1 before falling to Grand Valley State 8-4.

In singles, Peace had a strong run on the B side, reaching the finals. She beat Davenport 6-4, 6-2, then beat Southwest Baptist in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 10-8. After a straight sets win over Illinois-Springfield 6-3, 6-1, she had another three-set win over Wayne State in the semifinals 7-5, 4-6, 10-3. In the finals, she fell to Findlay 6-4, 0-6, 3-10.

Barrett posted a three-set win over McKendree 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 before falling to UIS 6-2, 6-1, while Lepinay had wins over Ferris State 7-5, 6-1 and Drury 6-2, 6-3 before losing to Wayne State 7-5, 6-3.

In other action, Avram fell to Wayne State 6-3, 6-4, and Shea Foster lost to Lake Superior State 7-5, 6-2.
