Ohio Intercollegiate Open comes to Tiffin Nov. 14

Tiffin University will be hosting and competing in the Ohio Intercollegiate Open Nov. 14 in the Heminger Center, with close to 30 teams competing in one of Ohio's premier wrestling events.

This marks the first time Tiffin has hosted the event, which will see some of the top wrestling programs in the country coming to the Heminger Center. Programs from Division I, II, and III will all compete, including nationally-ranked standouts from all divisions.

Competing teams include the Ohio State University, Edinboro, Glenville State, Indiana University, Kent State, Notre Dame, Ohio University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Lake Erie, Akron, West Liberty, West Virginia University, and Heidelberg University, with more expected.

Ohio State currently has the 8th-ranked Division I team in the country, with eight Buckeyes ranked among the Top 25 in the country in their respective weight classes. They are: Malik Heinselman (No. 15/125); Dylan D'Emilio (No. 18/141); Sammy Sasso (No. 1/149); Carson Kharchla (No. 10/165); Ethan Smith (No. 6/174); Kaleb Romero (No. 11/184); Rocky Jordan (No. 17/197); and Tate Orndorff (No. 7/HWT). 

Indiana will look to its four wrestlers who were named to InterMat's preseason national rankings. Brock HudkinsCayden RooksGraham Rooks, and D.J. Washington each received national preseason honors for their respective weight classes. West Virginia appears in the top 40 of two publications. FloWrestling ranked the Mountaineers 37th and WIN Magazine's Power Index (TPI) placed them in tie for 40th, with four ranked wrestlers in their weight classes.

Kent State, Ohio University, Edinboro, and Akron also boast numerous wrestlers ranked highly in the Mid-American Conference, while West Liberty (5th), Lake Erie (14th) and Tiffin (24th) are all ranked in the Division II polls. Tiffin's Bryan LaVearn (165) and Nick Mason (197) are both nationally ranked, with Mason recently being named GMAC Wrestler of the Week.

At least 19 Division I and 12 Division II nationally-ranked wrestlers will be in competition.
