Tiffin University (22-24) opened the 2023 G-MAC Softball Championships with a big upset, defeating top-seed Ohio Dominican 5-2.

The Dragons will now take on Findlay at 12:30 May 4 in second-round action.

Tiffin opened scoring with three runs in the fourth inning. Maci Head reached on an error at first base and Molly Koesters followed with a single. Maddie Woods then singled home the first run of the game, and Aubrie Harper followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0, Dragons.

ODU picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the gap to 3-2 but the Dragons came right back in the fifth for two more runs. Taylor Whalen walked and Head followed with a single. Tara Gall rocketed a double to the outfield, scoring two runs.

Claire Feldkamp shut down the Panthers after that, stranding runners in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings to preserve the win.

Overall Feldkamp was strong, allowing just four hits over 7 innings.

Head had two hits with a double, while Gall and Harper both had 2 RBI apiece.
