Dragons' bats come alive as TU earns split at Walsh

Tiffin University (9-18, 1-5 G-MAC) had three home runs in the opener at Walsh, winning 7-6.

The Dragons dropped the nightcap in walk-off fashion 5-4.

Tiffin banged out 12 hits in game one and they used the long ball to score in bunches. In the second inning, trailing 2-0, Caitlin Wilson doubled and Aubrie Harper singled. Molly Koesters then drilled a three-run home run to put TU ahead.

Tied 3-3 in the fifth, Maci Head hit a solo shot. Wilson and Koesters then singled and Michelle Rodkey slugged another three-run shot to take a 7-3 lead.

Walsh responded with three runs in the sixth to make it 7-6 but stranded the tying run at second base to end the inning. In the seventh, winning pitcher Claire Feldkamp mowed the Cavaliers down 1-2-3.

Feldkamp got the win with 7 innings of work, allowing 5 earned runs.

Koesters had 2 hits with a home run for 3 RBi, Rodkey also had 2 hits and a home run for 3 RBI, Wilson had 2 hits with a double, and Maddie Woods also had two hits. Head also had a home run in the game.

In the nightcap, the Dragons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Taylor Whalen reached on an error at third base and Woods singled. Katie Deardorff then also reached on an error at third, which allowed Whalen to score. Head then singled home two more runs as TU took the early lead.

Tied 3-3 in the sixth, Deardorff singled and moved to third after a grounder to second and a fielder's choice. Koesters then laced an RBI single to put TU ahead 4-3.

In the seventh, things fell apart for starter Isabella St. Peter. A walk, pitcher's fielding error, and a hit batter loaded the bases. With one out, a single sent two runners home and gave Walsh the victory.

St. Peter took the tough loss, going 6.1 innings and allowing just 4 hits but also 7 walks. She allowed 3 earned runs and had 7 strikeouts.

Koesters had two more hits, while Head had 2 RBI.
