Head's blast leads to split with Bulldogs

Tiffin University (7-12) got a 6th-inning blast from Maci Head to take the lead and earn a split with Ferris State.

The Dragons won game two 4-3 while dropping the opener in a slugfest 12-9.

In the nightcap, Claire Feldkamp picked up the victory, pitching the complete game and allowing just one earned run on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Head drilled a pitch to deep left field to give TU the deciding edge.

TU opened scoring in the first inning. Down 1-0, Taylor Whalen singled and stole second. Maddie Woods then also singled and stole second. Tara Gall then singled to drive both of them home.

Tiffin picked up more runs in the third. Katie Deardorff reached third on a three-base error by the left fielder and then came home on Gall's sacrifice fly.

Overall Head had 2 hits with a home run and Gall had 3 RBI.

In the opener, the two teams combined for 33 hits as TU came out on the losing end. Isabella St. Peter took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs over 4.1 innings.

TU found itself in the position of falling behind and catching up only to fall behind again throughout the game. Down 4-0 in the fourth, Gall and Molly Koesters both singled. Caitlin Wilson singled home one run, and Madie Legg singled home another to make it 4-2.

In the fifth, trailing 7-2, Woods doubled and stole third. Gall then walked and Head followed with a double and RBI. Koesters then singled home another run, while Wilson's fielder's choice got another run home.

Trailing 9-5 in the sixth, Whalen and Deardorff singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Gall then doubled home both runs.

Finally, in the seventh trailing 12-7, Wilson singled and Aubrie Harper drilled a two-run home run to cap TU's scoring.

Harper had 3 hits with a home run for 2 RBI, Gall had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI, Wilson added 2 hits for 2 RBI, and Whalen and Koesters also had 2 hits. Woods and Head had doubles.
