Dragons have strong opening day at G-MAC Championships

Tiffin University finished day one of the G-MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in first place after several strong finishes.

The Dragons totaled 37 points to lead the 12-team field, with Walsh and Findlay both next with 24 points apiece.

Steele Butzin won the javelin championship with a throw of 56.54 meters with Garrett Wilson taking second with 55.84 and Yassine Khalfaoui finishing third with 53.78.

Two Dragons hit provisional marks in the hammer throw. Vincent Volpe took fourth with 60.09 meters while Jacob McPherson was 5th with 59.78.

Dalton Gleeson also hit an NCAA mark with a 5th-place finish in the 10,000 meters, hitting a time of 30:09.88.

Competition continues on May 4.
