Dragons Fall to Spartans 91-81

The Tiffin University men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Tampa 91-81 with four of the Dragons' five starters hitting double-digit points in the loss.

Tiffin scored the first basket of the game but the Spartans surged back to lead 13-8. The Dragons countered with back-to-back threes to take a 14-13 lead with 14:29 left in the first. Several minutes later Tiffin held a 19-15 lead over the host, but Tampa went on a 13-0 run to take a 28-19 lead at the 9:18 minute mark.

Tampa held a double-digit lead until the Dragons countered with a 6-0 run to bring the score to 35-28 with 5:41 left in the first half. The Spartans outscored the Dragons 10-2 the rest of the half to take a 52-34 lead into halftime.

The Dragons started the second half with a 5-0 run to cut into the Spartans' lead at 52-39. Tiffin managed to keep it close until the Spartans went on a 10-2 run to lead 68-46 with 12:12 left in the game. The Dragons responded with a 5-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 68-51.

The Spartans were able to build up a 20 point lead at 76-56, but the Dragons countered, outscoring the host 13-5 to cut into Tampa's lead at 81-69 with 3:46 left in the second half. The Dragons were able to cut the lead down to single digits with a Tanner Johnson three at the 1:28 mark. The Dragons were unable to cut it down to a single possession as they ran out of time and lost the game 91-81.

Four Dragons hit double-digit points as Morgan Taylor led Tiffin with 15 points shooting 6-for-10 from the field, grabbing five rebounds, five assists, and one steal, and Trent Williams tallied 14 points shooting 6-for-14 from the field, had one rebound, and two assists. Luke Johnson scored 14 points shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, had two rebounds, three assists, and one steal, and Tanner Johnson had 14 points shooting 5-for-13 from the field, and 4-for-10 from deep, nabbing six rebounds, one assist, one block, and two steals.
