Dragons Survive Scare from Salem

Just looking at the score of Tiffin University's 96-80 victory over Salem International University (1-21), some would think Tiffin was in control the entire time, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It wasn't pretty, but Tiffin found a way to slip by the Tigers late in the 2nd half, as Salem led for 18 of the 40 minutes on Thursday night.

Neither team was sharp at the start of the 1st half, with a combined three points scored in the first three minutes of the game. The Tigers led all but three times, with Tiffin leading only once at 8-5, and the score being tied twice. Late in the half, Tiffin having trailed by six points at numerous points in the half, tied the score at 37-37, but went the half down 39-37.

Tiffin opened the half on a 22-5 run to take a 59-44 lead with 14:00 remaining. The Tigers regrouped and slowly made their way back into the contest, pulling to within three points at 66-63 with 08:06 left. TU found their offense late, mostly in the form of Austin Adams. The Tiffin sophomore scored 23 points in the 2nd half, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tiffin was able to pull away late, leading to a 96-80 victory.

Adams finished with a career high 31 points on 14 of 18 shooting. Austin finished with 10 rebounds, the 8th time this season he has finished with eight or more boards. Juwan Johnson chipped in with 18 points, and Alex Brown added 12 points.

Tiffin moves to 11-13 overall this season.
