Watson, Cleveland lead Tiffin's GMAC All Conference selections

Quarterback Nick Watson and defensive lineman Charlie Cleveland earned major honors as the GMAC announced its All Conference selections.

Watson was named Offensive Player of the Year while Cleveland was named Defensive Lineman of the Year. The pair were joined by 12 other players covering 14 total selections following the 2021 season.

Joining Watson and Cleveland garnering First Team honors were wide receiver Anthony Lowe and defensive back Kevin Hyde. Lowe was also named First Team kick returner.

This marks Watson's fifth All GMAC selection and his second as Offensive Player of the Year following a Player of the Year nod in 2020. He led the GMAC in passing yards, touchdowns, average passing yards per game, and QB efficiency. He finishes his career with TU records for yards passing with 12, 186, passing touchdowns with 99, and most attempts with 1544.

Cleveland, meanwhile, earned his third consecutive selection as GMAC Defensive Lineman of the Year and First Team lineman. He is currently second in Tiffin's record books in career sacks with 25 and third in tackles for loss with 43.

Lowe led the GMAC in receptions, yards, touchdowns, receptions per game, and yards per game in landing his second All GMAC honor. As a returner, Lowe was a double threat, finishing fifth in kick return yardage and second in punt return average in the conference. He also led the conference in punt return yardage.

Hyde had a standout year with 6 interceptions, leading the GMAC in earning his second straight First Team honor.

Six Dragons landed Second Team honors. Running back Darius Pinnix and offensive linemen Trent Clark and Zack Richardson were offensive picks, while defensive lineman Latrell Robinson and linebacker Brandon Burks were defensive selections. Placekicker David Orlando was a Second Team special teams selection, while also garnering Third Team honors at punter. 

Pinnix finished with 668 yards and 9 touchdowns in his debut season with TU, leading the GMAC in rushing touchdowns. Clark and Richardson anchored an offensive line that led the GMAC in points per game with 32.5 and totaled 426.1 yards per game. This marks Clark's third straight First Team honor, while Richardson lands his second GMAC nod.

Robinson earned his third All GMAC selection and finished amongst conference leaders in tackles for loss, while Burks earned his second All GMAC pick while making 44 tackles. Orlando was 4th in the GMAC in punting average. This marks his second All GMAC selection.

Four other Dragons were Third Team picks. Reggie Colson was selected at wide receiver, while defensive lineman Hunter Waits and linebackers Jacob Mertus and Landon Hall were also selected.

Colson had 430 yards receiving in his Tiffin debut, finishing third on the team in yards and leading the team in receptions per catch (minimum 10 games). 

Hall, Mertus, and Waits were mainstays on the TU defense, which led the GMAC with a 20.4 defensive per game average. Hall ranking amongst GMAC leaders in tackles and sacks. He was second on the team along with Mertus with 53 tackles while also posting 5.5 tackles for loss. Waits and Mertus also tied with 3.5 tackles for loss. This also marks Mertus and Hall's second all conference selections.
