16th-ranked Dragons come home to face Timberwolves

16th-ranked Tiffin University will take on Northwood in their home opener at 1 pm Sept. 11 at Frost Kalnow Stadium.

The game will show appreciation for all first responders and front-line workers. These individuals will get into the game free of charge with proof of credentials/badge. Simply show your badge/credentials at the ticket gate for free admittance. There will also be a promotional tent sponsored by Marco's Pizza providing free food and give-a-ways. 

The Dragons take on Northwood in a White Out game, the first of five home contests for TU this season.

Northwood Notes

- The 2021 Northwood University football team is looking to bounce back from a 1-10 2019 season. Finishing close games will be a key factor as they were 0-5 in games decided by 10 points or fewer.
- In game one of the season, the Timberwolves dropped a tough 28-21 overtime contest to Gannon.   
- Northwood was picked to finish eighth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 


Northwood Offense

- The Timberwolves offense is returning several key starters from the 2019 season including quarterback Nate Gomez, running back Cashual Goldsmith who led the team in rushing in his redshirt freshman season, wide receiver Noah Koenigsknecht who led the team in receiving yards as a redshirt freshman, and offensive lineman Damon Sutton and Jejuan Campbell who will provide veteran leadership up front. 
- Nate Gomez went 13-for-27 with 144 yards and rushed for 26 yards while throwing to five different receivers against Gannon led by Noah Koenigsknecht. He had three receptions for 64 yards. 
- Cashual Goldsmith was a monster on the ground with 112 yards rushing on 21 attempts with two touchdowns. 


Northwood Defense

- Northwood's defense is returning several key members including safety Erick Santiago ranking second on the team in tackles with 84 and Dylan Zagula recording 34 tackles as a true freshman.
- Keenan Williamson had a great first game recording eight tackles and two interceptions,while breaking up two passes. Erik Santiago has six solo tackles and two pass breakups so far this season. 


Tiffin Notes

- The Dragons are coming off an unprecedented season in the GMAC going 6-0 on the season and capturing back-to-back GMAC Championships for the first time in conference history.
- Tiffin has gone 15-2 over the last two seasons and look to capture their third consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. 
- Tiffin was selected first in the 2021 Preseason Coaches Poll receiving 48 points with 6 first-place votes followed by Findlay, Ohio Dominican and GMAC newcomer Ashland. 
- In their season opener, the Dragons visited the Marion Knights and won 34-10. This win pushed them up three spots in the AFCA (16th) and D2Football.com poll (19th).  


Tiffin Offense

- The Dragons are returning with GMAC Player of the Year Nick Watson, Offensive Lineman of the Year Trent Clark, the conference's leading rusher Marcus Davis, and First Team All-Conference wide receiver Anthony Lowe
- TU's offense got the job done in their first game of the 2021 season as they threw for 196 yards and recorded three passing touchdowns to three different receivers. On the ground, the Dragons rushed for 265 yard. Nick Watson led all rushers with 124 yards and scored twice.  
- In the fall of 2021 the Tiffin offense will look to continue to produce numbers but with a few new faces. Darius Pinnix, a 6-1 running back transfer from East Carolina, will lead a deep backfield with Baden Pinson, Marcus Davis, and Devin Nelson.
- First Team All-Conference selection Anthony Lowe returns and will look to build on his breakout season with the team. He will lead a deep receiving corps of transfer Reggie Colson, James Dean, and Mason Gray all averaging more than 11.4 yards per catch. 


Tiffin Defense

- Tiffin's defense picked up right where they left off in the spring of 2021, as they only allowed Marion 35 rushing yards, registered eight sacks from seven different players, and had two interceptions. The Dragons held the Marion Offense to 4-for-16 on third down conversions and 198 yards and one touchdown through the air. 
- TU returns with the GMAC Defensive Lineman of the Year Charlie Cleveland, First Team All-Conference DL Latrell Robinson, LB Brandon Burks, LB Marshawn Mankins, and DB Kevin Hyde along with four other All-Conference selections on the defensive side.
