Dragons split with Trojans in season finale

Tiffin University (16-33, 8-23 G-MAC) got a split in its season finale at Trevecca Nazarene, winning 9-4 after falling 11-10.

In the victory, Gunnar Boehm got the win, going the distance over 9 innings and allowing 4 earned runs.

The Dragons supplied offfense all day long, getting 14 hits in the win and 16 hits in the 11-10 defeat. 

In the second down 2-0, Cal Brazier walked and Ben Bach singled. Tommy Thamann then singled to drive in two runs and tie the game.

In the third, Logan Swonger and Griffin Stevens singled. Bach then cranked a three-run home run as TU added to their total.

TU got another run in the fourth. Thamann singled and stole second. After a Carter Klausing walk, Tim Orr singled to drive in the run.

In the fifth, Bach reached on an error at third and moved up on a wild pitch. Andrew Fairbrother then drove him home with a single.

TU got its final runs in the sixth. Swonger walked and Stevens then singled. A wild pitch let one run in, and Orr followed with a triple to score another run.

Overall Thamann had 3 hits for 2 RBI while Bach had 2 hits for 3 RBI. Swonger, Stevens, Orr, and Fairbrother all had two hits each.

In the 11-10 loss, Tiffin had a big lead late but gave up 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Scotty Adelman took the loss in relief, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing no earned runs.

In the second trailing 2-0, Bach and Fairbrother singled and an error by the pitcher let a run cross the plate.

In the third, Stevens walked. With two out, Bach then singled and Fairbrother also walked to load the bases. Dawson Groch then doubled all three runners in as TU jumped out to a 4-2 lead.

In the fourth up 4-3, TU staged another two-out rally. Stevens singled and came home on Orr's double. Brazier then singled and an error in right field let another run in as TU expanded its lead to 6-3.

In the fifth, Fairbrother doubled, Ty Hatfield singled, and Thamann then doubled in another run.

TU blew the game open in the sixth. Brazier doubled and came home on Bach's single. Fairbrother then singled and moved up on a wild pitch. After a Groch walk, Hatfield then singled for another RBI. After Thamann's RBI-single, the Dragons led 10-4.

After the Trojans tallied six runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, the Dragons lost it in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one out, an error at third base by the Dragons let the winning run in for the Trojans.
