The #5 Tiffin University Dragons (25-15) were edged 3-1 by #4 Kentucky Wesleyan on the first day of the GMAC Championships.

The Dragons entered the tournament going 3-1 against Kentucky Wesleyan last weekend. Tiffin carried that momentum in the first inning as they grabbed a 1-0 lead. Jake Shier was walked to start the inning and stole second, then Griffin Stevens walked and Shier advanced to third on a wild pitch, putting runners on the corners. Kyle Vance came to the plate with two outs and hit an RBI single through the left side to score Shier.

Tyler Wehrle was strong on the mound, allowing just two hits and no runs through six innings. The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh off a homer to tie the game at 1-1.

Kentucky Wesleyan took the lead in the eighth as their lead off hitter singled to right center. Then two errors by the Dragon infield allowed runners to score to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead. The Dragons were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth.

The Dragons will play in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 11 am against the loser of Trevecca Nazarene-Malone.
