Wehrle Throws a Gem in Game Two as Dragons Split with Trojans

The Tiffin University baseball team split the doubleheader with the Trojans falling in game one 14-6 and winning game two 8-1.

The Dragons improve to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the conference and the Trojans improve to 15-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference. 

Game One:

A high-scoring affair in the first game as Trevecca took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. The Dragons responded in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Stevens was walked with the bases loaded to score Tommy Thamann, then Tim Orr grounded out to second base to score Jake Shier, Nich Green Singled to left field to advance Stevens to third and scored Danny Donnelly, and finally Kyle Vance Field out to left-center field to bring in the tying run.

The Trojans scored two in the fourth to lead 5-4 but the Dragons scored another run in the fifth the tied the game at 5-5. Vance singled to left-center to score Orr. 

The hosts added two more runs in the fifth to lead 7-5, but in the top of the sixth Orr doubled down the left-field line to score Donnelly to cut the Trojan lead to one run. 

Trevecca added seven more runs two in the sixth and five more in the eighth inning to win 14-6.

Shier went 3-for-4 and score one run, Orr went 2-for-5 and led the team with two RBI and scored one run. 

Boswell pitched 4.0 innings, allowed six hits, five runs, and had three strikeouts.

Game Two:

The Dragons offense caught fire in the second game scoring five runs in the top of the second inning as Thamann doubled and advanced to third on an error and Campbell scored on that same error for the first run of the game, next Shier singled to second and scored Thamann from third, then with runners on first and second Orr homered to left field to lead the Host 5-0.

Tiffin added a run in the third as Thamann hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Tommy Auth from third to lead 6-0. 

TU scored again in the fifth as Donnelly came to the plate with the bases loaded, he reached on a fielder's choice to score Campbell from third. 

With runners on the corners, Orr advanced to second on an error by the catcher allowing Stevens to steal second and score to lead the host 8-0.

The Trojans scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 8-1.

Tyler Wehrle got the win pitching 7.0 innings, allowed two hits, one unearned run, and struck out six. 

Shier went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while teammate Tim Orr went 2-for-3, scored one run, and had a team-high three RBI.
