Dragons Split Twinbill Against Malone

The Tiffin University baseball team split the twinbill against Malone University, losing the first game 3-0 and winning the second game 14-4. 

The Dragons improve to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference while the Pioneers improve to 9-12 overall and 4-10 in the conference.

Game 1:

After two scoreless innings, Malone got on the board first with a double to center field with a runner on third to lead 1-0.

The Pioneers added another in the fifth. With runners on first and second Tiffin tried to end the inning with a double play but the throw wasn't in time, allowing Gingerich to score to lead 2-0.

Malone scored again in the seventh to bring their lead to 3-0. 

Tiffin had a late surge in the ninth with runners in scoring positions, but the Pioneers were able to close the door to win 3-0.

Danny Donnelly had a good day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles. 

Michael Boswell pitched 7.0 innings for the Dragons with seven strikeouts, allowed six hits, and two earned runs.

 

Game 2:

The Dragons started the game hot, scoring five in the first inning. Zach Campbell doubled, scoring the runner Donnelly from second. Tim Orr walked to put runners on the corners. Griffin Stevens singled through the right side to score Campbell, then Marino Pugnetti was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ricky Havrilla singled up the middle to score Orr from third and Stevens from second. One batter later Jake Shier singled down the firstbase line to score Pugnetti to lead 5-0. 

Tiffin scored four more in the second inning to lead 9-0. Starting with Donnelly reaching on a throwing error by the shortstop, Green then singled through the right side to advance the runner. Orr singled to advance Green and score Donnelly. Stevens hit a deep double to score Green. With runners on the corners, Pugnetti doubled to right-center to score Orr and Stevens to lead 9-0 through two innings.

TU added one in the third inning. With a runner on third Orr flied out to center field to score Donnelly from third to lead 10-0.

The Dragons kept swinging, scoring two more runs in the fourth off a home run from Havrilla with Pugnetti on base to lead 12-0.

Malone got on the board in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on four hits to cut the host advantage to 12-4.

Tiffin scored two more in the bottom of the fifth from another two-run home-run this time by Griffin Stevens with Nich Green on base. The Dragons took game two 14-4.

Griffin Stevens did well for the Dragons as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and scored three runs. Teammate Ricky Havrilla went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, four RBI, and scored one run.

Michael Ross got the win for the Dragons as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowed six hits that brought in four runs, and struck out four.
