Six Dragons land All American at NCWWC Nationals

Six Tiffin University women's wrestlers landed All American honors, as the Dragons finished 7th overall at the Cliff Keen NCWWC National Championships.

Sugey Ceja (116 pounds) was the top placer, finishing 2nd in her weight class for the second year in a row. Jessie Lee (191) took 4th place, while Morgan Davidson (170) and Taylor Hites (155) both nabbed 6th. Eunique Davis (130) was 7th while Shanna Morris (101) finished 8th.

Overall McKendree won the national championship with 209 points, while King was runner-up with 171.5. Emmanuel placed third with 133.5. The Dragons totaled 65.5 points.

Ceja dominated her way to the finals. She posted two tech fall wins to open, beating North Central 10-0 and Schreiner 11-0. She then flattened King in just 54 seconds to reach the title match. She fell in the title match, failing to hold a 6-2 lead midway through the second period as McKendree put quick points together to eventually win 16-6.

Lee opened with two wins also, pinning Iowa Wesleyan in 2:09 and then outpointing McKendree 7-4. After losing by fall to McKendree in 1:15, she won a narrow tiebreaker decision over Emmanuel. In the third place match, Lee fell by fall with just five seconds remaining to finish fourth.

Hites opened with a 6-0 win over Lindenwood but then lost by fall to McKendree in 1:17. She bounced back with a 10-0 win over Lindenwood and then backed it up with a 7-4 score over Colorado Mesa. She then lost to North Central 6-2 and 11-0 to King for sixth place.

Davidson took a similar path as Hites, but all of her matches were decided by falls. She opened with a pin over Colorado Mesa in 5:17, then was pinned by King in 4:22. She bounced back in strong fashion with pins over North Central in 37 seconds and Adrian in 26 seconds. Colorado Mesa than pinned Davidson in 1:07 before she was pinned late by Emmanuel in 5:20 for sixth.

Davis lost 10-0 to Limestone in a disappointing opening match, but she bounced back with a 9-0 win over Colorado Mesa and a 15-7 win over Augsburg. After getting pinned by Emmanuel in 1:40, she won the 7th place match 8-6 over New Jersey City.

Morris also opened by getting pinned by Presbyterian in 1:55 but bounced back for consecutive 10-0 tech fall wins over Gannon and Trinity Oredina of Tiffin. She then lost by falls to Colorado Mesa in 4:11 and UW-Stevens Point in 5:23.

Ceja, Lee, Hites, and Davis all earned their third All American honors with their performances this year. Morris landed her second All American honor, while Davidson landed one in her freshman season.
