Senior Night a Sucess as Dragons Pull Off a 3-0 Victory Over Ashland

The Tiffin University volleyball team (14-16, 8-9 GMAC) pulled off a huge 3-0 win over Ashland (ranked 4th in the Midwest Region) to increase their chances of earning a berth in the 2022 GMAC Volleyball Championship.

The Dragons won 25-23, 25-18, and 25-19.

Before the start of today's GMAC contest, the women's volleyball program honored its three-member senior class that included Amari Torain, Brie Wight, and Mikayla Greer.

To start the game, Tiffin went up with a 4-3 lead, then the Eagles countered with a 4-1 run to lead 7-5. The Dragons responded with a 5-2 run to lead 10-9. Ashland outscored the Dragons 6-3 to take an 18-16 lead, but Tiffin responded with a 4-1 run to lead 20-19. The Dragons outscored the Eagles 5-4 to win the set 25-23.

Ashland came out strong in the second set, jumping out to a 6-4 lead, but Tiffin rallied to take a 10-9 lead. TU then went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-11 lead, forcing an Ashland timeout. The Eagles responded with a 4-1 run to tie the game at 15-15. The Dragons went on a tear, outscoring the Eagles 9-2 to lead 24-17. Tiffin went on to win the second set 25-18.

TU kept their momentum and built a 6-1 lead in set three, but the Eagles responded with a 4-0 run to cut Tiffin's lead to 6-5. Tiffin went on a 4-1 run to take a 12-9 lead. Ashland fought back with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 13-13. The Dragons went on a monster 6-1 run to lead 19-14. Tiffin outscored Ashland 6-4 to win the third set 25-19.

Kenedi Goon led the Dragons with 10 kills, a .269 hitting percentage, one dig, one block assist, and one solo block, Wakaya Wilson tallied 10 kills, with a .333 hitting percentage, and two digs, and Kaylee Freund registered eight kills with a .353 hitting percentage, one dig, and two block assists.

Clare Kwiatkowski had a team-high 38 assists, one service ace, five digs, and one kill, Diana Heitkamp recorded 25 digs, one kill, one assist, and one service ace, and senior Mikayla Greer tallied seven kills, five digs, and one block assist.
