Dragons Defeat Cedarville 3-1 in Key Conference Matchup

The Tiffin University volleyball team (13-15, 7-8 GMAC) defeated Cedarville 3-1.

The Dragons started strong with an 8-2 lead to start the match, but the Yellow Jackets went on a 6-1 run to tie the game at 11-11. Tiffin countered with an 8-1 run to take a 24-15 lead. Cedarville had a late 5-0 run but the Dragons took the first set 25-20.

TU kept their momentum in the second set and went up 4-1. Cedarville countered and outscored the Dragons 9-3 to lead 10-7. Tiffin chipped away at the lead and went on a 3-0 run to lead 16-15 to force a Cedarville timeout. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 3-0 run to take a 20-18 lead. Cedarville went on to win the second set 25-21.

In the third set, the Dragons jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but the Yellow Jackets countered with a 3-0 run to lead 4-3. Cedarville then went on a 3-0 run to lead 9-6. Midway through the set, the Yellow Jackets went on a 3-0 run that forced a Tiffin timeout, but the Dragons countered with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 17-17. Cedarville built a 20-18 lead, but the Dragons fought back with a 3-0 run to lead 21-20. TU outscored the visitors 4-2 down the stretch to win set three 25-22.

Cedarville grabbed a 4-2 lead to start the fourth set, but the Dragons responded with a huge 9-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. Tiffin extended their lead further as they went on a 6-0 run to lead 20-10. Tiffin went on to win the set 25-12.

Kenedi Goon led the Dragons with 16 kills, a .571 hitting percentage, one dig, and one solo block, Taylor Peterson had 11 kills, with a .184 hitting percentage, and Kaylee Freund had eight kills, with a .333 hitting percentage, one solo block, and three block assists.

Clare Kwiatkowski tallied 45 assists, two kills, three service aces, three digs, and two block assists and teammate Diana Heitkamp had a team-high 24 digs, one assist, and one service ace.
