The Tiffin University women's volleyball team defeated conference opponent Malone in five sets, 3-2.
The Dragons improve to 8-11 overall and 5-3 in the GMAC, while the Pioneers fell to 6-11 overall and 2-6 in the GMAC.
The Dragons started fast, going up 4-0 at the start of the first set, but the Pioneers countered to tie the game at 5-5. The two teams traded points until Tiffin went on a 6-0 run to lead 12-6. The Dragons kept the offense going and went on to lead 19-9 and would go on to win the first set 25-13.
In a hard-fought set two, both teams traded points tying six times before either team hit 10 points. The Dragons started to open up a lead at 12-9 but Malone rallied to take a 14-12 lead with a 5-0 run. The host kept a two-point lead until the Dragons went on a 6-2 run to lead 21-19, but the Pioneers outscored the Dragons 5-1 to take set two 25-22.
In the third set, the Pioneers caught fire and opened up a 13-7 lead early. The Dragons' offense fought back but Malone ended the set on a 7-0 run and won the third set 25-13.
Tiffin again fell behind in the third set 11-6, but was able to rally back by going on a 9-1 run to take a 19-17 lead. The Dragons went on to win the set 25-22 to force a fifth set.
A tough fifth set saw the Dragons take a narrow lead 6-5 early. TU was able to string together a 4-0 run to lead the Pioneers 10-5. Tiffin then outscored the Pioneers 5-2 the rest of the way to take the fifth and final set 15-7.
Taylor Peterson had a record night, hitting a career-best 14 kills with a .313 hitting percentage, nine digs, two blocks, and one service ace, Kenedi Goon registered 11 kills with a .222 hitting percentage, nine digs, and two blocks, and Grace Schreiber recorded nine kills, four digs, and a team-high five blocks.
Loryn Huffman tallied 45 assists, 14 digs, four kills with a .333 hitting percentage, and three blocks, and teammate Sam Fallis had 23 digs and three service aces.
