Dragons Get 3-1 Win in Home Opener Against Ursuline

The Tiffin University volleyball team defeated the Ursuline Arrows 3-1 in their home opener of the fall 2021 season. 

The Dragons improve to 2-8 on the season and 1-0 in the GMAC, while the Arrows fall to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in the GMAC. 

The Dragons fell behind 4-2 in the first set but clawed back to lead 5-4. Then, Tiffin went on a 5-1 run to take a 10-7 lead. Ursuline responded with a 4-2 run to tie the game at 17-17 but the Dragons outscored the Arrows down the stretch 8-5 to win 25-22.

The Dragons shot out of the gate with a 5-0 run to start set number two. However, the Arrows responded with a 7-3 run to come within one of the Dragons, forcing a Tiffin timeout. After the timeout, Tiffin opened with a 3-0 run to lead 12-7. After battling back and forth, the Dragons went on a 5-0 run to lead 20-12 and outscored the visitors the rest of the way to win set two 25-16.

In the third set, Tiffin led 4-2 but the Arrows responded with a 4-0 run to lead 7-6. The Dragons then went on a 5-2 run to lead 11-9 but Ursuline battled back to lead 12-11. Tiffin then went on a 4-0 run to lead 15-12. The Arrows responded with a 5-2 run to tie the game at 17-17. After trading points, the game was tied at 21-21, and Ursuline outscored the Dragons 4-2 the rest of the third set to win 25-23.

More of the same in the fourth set for both these teams as the Dragons led 2-0 to start and the Arrows fought back to tie the game at 4-4 and led by 6-4. The Dragons went on a 6-3 run to take a 10-9 lead. The teams traded 3-0 runs until the Dragons went on a 4-0 run to lead 19-16. The Arrows came back tying the game at 19-19. The Dragons closed out the game with a 6-4 run to win their third game 25-23.

The Dragons had a great day with 60 total kills with a .220 hitting percentage and six total blocks, with four Dragons getting double-digit kills. Wakaya Wilson led the Dragons in attack with 15 kills with a .220 hitting percentage, 13 digs, one solo block, and one block assist, and teammate Grace Schreiber tallied 11 kills with a .250 hitting percentage, three service aces, five block assists, and one dig. Kenedi Goon recorded 11 kills with a .269 hitting percentage and two block assists, and teammate Josie Reinhart registered 10 kills with a .176 hitting percentage, six digs, and one service ace. Loryn Huffman collected 45 assists, 17 digs, two block assists, and one kill, and teammate Sam Fallis had 30 digs and seven assists on the day.
