Dragons Lose in Five to Findlay

The Tiffin University volleyball team split sets losing the first and third set 25-16 and 25-23, winning the second and fourth set 25-22 and 25-23, but falling in the fifth set 15-10.

The Oilers improve to 8-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Dragons fall to 6-5 overall and 6-5 in the conference. 

The Dragons defense was strong today as they tallied 13 blocks, compared to the Oilers' 8. The Oiler offense was the difference with 75 kills with a .176 hitting percentage, while the Dragons had 42 kills and a .115 hitting percentage. 

In the first set the Oilers jumped to a 10-3 lead on the back of a 7-0 run. The Oilers continued their dominance in the first set, outscoring the Dragons 6-1 to go up 21-10. The Dragons rallied, outscoring the Oilers 6-4 but the Oilers took the first set 25-16. 

A more competitive second set as Tiffin jumped out to a 7-3 lead early, but the Oilers countered to tie the game at 8-8. The Dragons strung another run together to lead 13-9.  Midway through the set the Dragons outscored Findlay 7-2 to lead 24-18. The Oilers went on a 5-1 run but the Dragons took the second set 25-22. 

Findlay led early in the third set 6-3 but the Dragons countered to tie the set at 6-6. The Oilers went on an 8-1 run to lead 14-7 over the Dragons. But the Dragons clawed back to come within one point of the hosts at 24-23. A Findlay kill ended the third set 25-23. 

A tight fourth set as the Dragons went up 12-8, but the Oilers responded with a 9-1 run to lead 17-13. The Dragons came back though on the back of a 7-3 run to lead 21-20 and would outscore Findlay 4-3 to take the fourth set 25-23, forcing a fifth set.   

In a race to 15, the Oilers went on a 6-1 run midway through the fifth set to lead 9-6. The Dragons were unable to stage a comeback and lost the fifth set 15-10.  

Grace Schreiber led the Dragons with 13.5 points on 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, one solo block and three block assists. Danielle Sargent tallied 11.5 points with seven kills, a .227 hitting percentage, seven block assists, one solo block and one dig.

Loryn Huffman registered 30 assists, 13 digs and four block assists and teammate Sam Fallis recorded 34 digs and two assists.
