Dragons Fall to Eagles in Midwest Crossover Opener

INDIANAPOLIS - Tiffin volleyball kicked off the Midwest Crossover with a match against Ashland University on Friday afternoon, falling to the Eagles 3-1.

Seeded fourth from the GMAC, the Dragons were paired up with the fourth-seeded team from the GLIAC in Ashland, who they will also face again later this season.

Tiffin was able to take set one from the Eagles, emerging with the win after a tight, back-and-forth battle. The set was tied at 18 apiece before the teams traded points until it was 24-all. The Dragons were then able to finally string two points together as Grace Schreiber and Jenna Huffman notched back-to-back kills to take the set 26-24.

Ashland rebounded strong in set two, building a big early lead before taking a 25-13 win. Set three was much closer, but a late 6-0 run by the Eagles put them in position for the match victory with a 25-23 win.

Set four was also close throughout, but again it was a late run that doomed the Dragons as Ashland scored the final four points to win 25-20.

Jenna Huffman led TU with 17 kills and eight digs, while Loryn Huffman had 35 assists and Sam Fallis notched 15 digs. Schreiber had the second-highest kill total on the team with seven, and also picked up a pair of aces.

The Dragons will look to bounce back on day two of the crossover tomorrow, as they play two games against UIndy at 10 a.m. and Bellarmine at 4 p.m.
