Records Fall as Tiffin Takes Second at GMAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - Program, conference, and championship records were surpassed in multiple events as the Tiffin track & field women finished a very close second at the GMAC Championships on Saturday.

The team title came down to the final race in the 4x400m relay, where Hillsdale's first-place finish vaulted the Chargers to 149 points while Tiffin's second-place finish brought the Dragons' total to 147.66 points over the two days. Walsh placed third with 122 points, with Findlay (89 points) and Cedarville (51.33 points) rounding out the top five.

Tiffin added 11 more medals on Saturday to bring their two-day total to 15 (six gold, five silver, four bronze).

After winning both the pentathlon and long jump on Friday, Jazilee Williams continued her dominance with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.94 seconds and received Field Athlete of the Meet honors.

Keyonna McGill took home Freshman of the Meet honors after an exceptional Saturday showing, beginning with a new PR, NCAA provo, and second-place finish of 7.56 seconds in the 60m dash that is fifth in GMAC history. She followed that up with a second-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 25.37 seconds while also contributing to Tiffin's second-place finish in the 4x400m relay.

Rajiah Andrews won the 60m with a PR-tying time of 7.51 seconds that also sets a new GMAC Championship record. The sophomore also won the 60m hurdles in 8.59 seconds, increasing her PR and NCAA provo with a time that could potentially qualify for the NCAA Championships along with her 60m mark. The 60m hurdles time is also a new Tiffin record in the event.

Marisa Gwinner has her sights set on another fantastic showing in the high jump at nationals after finishing third at indoors and first at outdoors, as the sophomore cleared a massive PR, TU record, and GMAC record 1.80 meters on Saturday. Gwinner's previous career-best of 1.76 meters had been tied for first in all of Division II this season, and this new mark could potentially earn Gwinner sole possession of the top height in the nation barring a better performance elsewhere in DII this weekend.

Mercedeez Francis also impressed in the high jump, placing second with a clearance of 1.64 meters.

Tiffin took home a pair of medals in the shot put, with Brenda Johnson taking first with a heave of 15.06 meters and Nicole Berry placing third with a top throw of 14.38 meters. Johnson's mark is also a new GMAC Championships record in the event.

Miaisha Blair added a bronze medal to Tiffin's total with a third-place finish of 11.02 meters in the triple jump.

Tiffin now awaits the official qualifier lists from the NCAA that are scheduled to be released on Tuesday to find out how many Dragons will be attending the 2020 Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 13-14.
