Cooper-Laylor and Gwinner Sweep GMAC Weekly Honors

INDIANAPOLIS - The GMAC released the Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 17-23 on Wednesday, with Tiffin's Tatiyana Cooper-Laylor and Marisa Gwinner taking both honors.

The Dragons have taken half of the GMAC weekly honors for women's track & field this season with nine of the possible 18, as five have come on the track and four in the field. Both Cooper-Laylor and Gwinner receive the award for the second time this season.

Cooper-Laylor had a very busy weekend at the Silverston Invitational while competing in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and on the 4x400-meter relay squad.

She clocked a season PR of 7.57 in the 60m, increasing her NCAA provisional qualifying time, and heads into the indoor conference championships poised to break the meet record along with teammate Rajiah Andrews.

Cooper-Laylor would finish runner-up in the event after running a 7.60 in the prelims.

The sophomore also ran a 25.69 to finish fourth in the 200 and combined with Andrews, Alexya Peoples, and Keyonna McGill to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:00.29.

With the auto qualifying height for nationals in the high jump at 1.75m, Gwinner is just one of four in the Division II ranks to have met that tough mark.

Gwinner remains in a tie for first as the top seed (1.76m) along with Franklin Pierce's Paola Brena and Saginaw Valley State's Cheyenne Williamson.

Gwinner has cleared 1.76m (5' 9.25") two times this season, including over the weekend at the Silverston Invitational. The other time was at the Tiffin Alumni Open back in December.

The sophomore will look to defend her 2019 GMAC Indoor title in the event this weekend in the Heminger Center.
