Cooper-Laylor, Johnson Take Home GMAC Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS - The GMAC released the track and field Athletes of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, with Tiffin's Tatiyana Cooper-Laylor and Brenda Johnson sweeping the women's side of the honors.

Cooper-Laylor recorded a trio of runner-up performances at the Tiffin Dragon Open to earn the Track Athlete of the Week recognition.

The sophomore matched her PR with a provisional qualifying 7.64 in the 60-meter dash finals, tying her own mark for the second-fastest in conference history. She also ran a 7.64 in her last meet, the Tiffin Alumni Open in December.

Cooper-Laylor had won the preliminary heat with a time of 7.69, another time that will go down as a top 10 mark.

Additionally, the sprinter showed off her speed in the 200-meter dash, finishing second in 25.96.

In the 4x400 relay, Tiffin and Cooper-Laylor finished second by less than two seconds.

Johnson earned the Field Athlete of the Week honor and is now in sixth place for the conference records in the shot put, penciling in her name for the second time after her performance at the Tiffin Dragon Open.

Johnson won the event against teammate (and conference record-holder) Nicole Berry as the Dragon tandem both hit provisional qualifying marks.

Johnson's sixth and final attempt from the throws cage resulted in a distance of 15.12m (49' 7.25"), which is currently the top women's shot put mark in all of Division II on the season.
